Port Charlotte, Isle of Islay

Islay is the fifth-largest Scottish island and the eighth-largest island of the British Isles, with a total area of almost 620 square kilometres (240 sq mi).

Situated on the Rhinns western peninsula of Islay, Port Charlotte is a village famous for its rows of white painted cottages. The Village was originally built in 1828 to house workers for the Lochindaal Distillery. The Distillery closed in 1929 and many of its buildings remain. Whisky distilled at nearby Bruichladdich distillery is matured in oak casks at Port Charlotte warehouses.
