Kirkstone Pass

Sunday

Although only light, it did not seem to want to stop snowing on Sunday. With no phone signal or internet I had know idea what the forecast was for the next couple of days. With a train booked to London on Tuesday morning I made the decision to head back home rather than chance getting stuck on site. Perhaps the wrong decision as now I have access to the forecast I can see its going to be a sunny day on Monday.

Before heading home I took a walk up the Kirkstone Pass. The Kirkstone mountain pass reaches an altitude of 1,489 feet (454 m) and is the highest road open to vehicles in the Lake District.

Ullswater Valley

Saturday

A weekend break in the Ullswater Valley to kick start 2018.

Friday night had seen some very strong gusts of wind and the two Yurts on sight did not survive the night.

The plan had been to climb up to High Street Fell but strong winds and frequent snow showers bought about a change of plan.

I took a walk along the valley, from the bottom of Kirkstone Pass, passing Brothers Water and on to the shore of Ullswater as far as Silver Point at which point I turned around and followed the same route back. A total of just under 10 miles according to my smart phone.
