Trip to Inisheer (Inis Oirr) & views of Cliffs of Moher from the sea

Ireland day 27

Inisheer (IrishInis Oírr) is the smallest and most easterly of the three Aran Islands in Galway BayIreland. With 281 residents as of the 2016 census, it is the second-most populous of the Arans. The island is geologically an extension of The Burren. The terrain of the island is composed of limestone pavements with crisscrossing cracks known as "grikes", leaving isolated rocks called "clints".The cargo vessel Plassey was shipwrecked off Inis Oírr on 8 March 1960, and has since been thrown above high tide mark at Carraig na Finise on the island by strong Atlantic waves. The ship features in the opening credits of the TV Show Father Ted, as the show was based on these islands.

After a few hours on the Island, the return ferry included a close up sail past the Cliffs of Moher. There are probably some Puffins amongst the tiny blobs in the pictures.

Burren coast walk

Ireland day 26 (Friday)

A short walk along the coast from Doolin heading North away from the cliffs of Moher.

The Burren is renowned for its Limestone geology. The Limestone began life as marine deposits on the floor of a tropical sea, back when the Irish land mass resided near the equator. The pavement is broken by water worn fissures filled by wild flowers.

Cliffs of Moher walk

Ireland day 25

The Cliffs of Moher are sea cliffs located at the southwestern edge of the Burren region in County ClareIreland. They run for about 14 kilometres (9 miles). At their southern end, they rise 120 metres (390 ft) above the Atlantic Ocean at Hag's Head, and, 8 kilometres (5 miles) to the north, they reach their maximum height of 214 metres (702 ft) just north of O'Brien's Tower, a round stone tower near the midpoint of the cliffs, built in 1835.

The cliffs are one of the most popular tourist destinations in Ireland and topped a list of attractions in 2006 by receiving almost one million visitors at the official visitor centre.

I took an early bus to the visitor centre which is located near the middle of the cliffs. I then walked along the cliff path to the look out tower at Hag's Head before returning back past the visitor centre and continued along the cliff path to Doolin.
