Starting from The Swirls car park above Thirlmere, this walk climbs onto the rugged ridge of High Rigg, a modest but rewarding fell tucked between the valleys of St John’s in the Vale and Thirlmere. The route offers views across the reservoir towards the Helvellyn range, with a mixture of rocky paths, grassy slopes and quiet, undulating terrain. Although relatively low compared with its famous neighbours, High Rigg has a distinctive character of its own, with a succession of little summits.
