Starting at Tilberthwaite (after a 3 mile walk to the start), the route follows the old track beside Tilberthwaite Gill, climbing through a dramatic rocky gorge surrounded by woodland, waterfalls and the remains of the area's former quarrying industry.
Hole Rake is an old miners' route linking Tilberthwaite with the Coppermines Valley, and the landscape around it has been heavily shaped by mining.
