Torrisdale Bay, Sutherland

A walk to the beach at Torrisdale Bay, which starts over looking the River Naver as it approaches the sea at the bay.  The walk was 9 miles there and back.

Situated at the mouth of the River Naver between Bettyhill and Torresdale, the beach is a popular place with surfers who enjoy the challenging tides. The River Naver, which drains into the bay, originates in Loch Naver, some 18 miles inland. It is one of Scotland's most productive salmon rivers.

On 5 May 1942, the American Liberty ship SS John Randolph struck a mine en route from northern Russia to Iceland. The forepart was salved but broke tow on 1 September 1952 and was wrecked at Torrisdale Bay on 5 September, where the wreckage remains on the beach and is uncovered at low tide.
