In Memoriam - The New Islington wild flowers

This summer we have been treated to a beautiful collection of wild flowers growing on land next to the New Islington Tram stop in Manchester. Today however, the council (or TfGM ?) came along and churned them all up and planted grass seed instead - personally I would prefer the flowers.

Luckily I took some photo's the other day.....

  1. How ridiculous. There is nothing nicer than a meadow of wild flowers. The one at the Olympic Park in London received international acclaim last year, and I've since been delighted to see that a bit of a bee and butterfly-friendly trend of similar meadows seems to have taken hold. Very sad to hear that the New Islington meadow is to be replaced with monotonous boring grass - very retrograde.

  2. The area would look a lot nicer if residents from the local flats - sorry apartments took their rubbish with them after having BBQ's on the grassed areas.
