Salcombe

The town is close to the mouth of the Kingsbridge Estuary, built mostly on the steep west side. The town's extensive waterfront and the naturally sheltered harbour formed by the estuary gave rise to its success as a boat- and shipbuilding and sailing port and, in modern times, tourism especially in the form of pleasure sailing and yachting - which is evident with the distinct lack of local accents but plenty of well spoken Chelsea accents.

Salcombe has the second highest property prices in the UK outside of central London (after Sandbanks, Poole). Many of the shops, bars and restaurants in the town, especially towards the waterfront, cater for a predominantly well-off, fashionable and nautically-inclined clientele, with prices to match.  Properties with estuary or sea views can fetch between £1 million and £5 million and some rent for as much as £12,000 a week in the high season.
