My final full day on Skye for this trip with a walk along a vague track through some peat bogs above Sligachan. Peat bogs are dense wetlands filled with partially decayed vegetation. The waterlogged conditions and the bog’s acidity prevents the vegetation from fully decaying when it dies. Instead, it builds up very slowly over thousands of years to become peat. Sometimes the peat can be metres deep. Peatlands or bogs are the world’s largest terrestrial carbon store, capturing more than all of the Earth’s forests combined. The UK’s peatlands currently store more than three billion tonnes of carbon.
Following the travels of a 2011 Brazilian Volkswagen Type 2 camper van around the UK. Zoom in/out on the map to see where we have visited. Click on the marker to find the link direct to that page. I will be adding more and more of my locations from the last few years over the coming weeks.

Rhubha an Dunain, Isle of Skye.
Rubha an Dùnain or Rubh' an Dùnain is an uninhabited peninsula to the south of the Cuillin hills on the Isle of Skye. The headland rises to over 30 metres (100 feet) above sea level. There are views towards the islands of Rum and Canna. The walk starts from and returns to Culmanean beach alongside Loch Brittle.
