South Uist and Eriskay

Continuing my journey along the Western Isles archipelago with a drive through South Uist to the Ferry port on the Isle of Eriskay, for the short hop over to the Isle of Barra.

Balranald RSPB Nature Reserve, North Uist

This RSPB nature reserve at the western point of North Uist is surrounded sandy beaches. 

Many species of wading birds nest on the flower-rich machair and the croftland, including Oyster Catcher, Corn Bunting, Lapwing, Turnstone and the secretive Cornrake (and some young Crows). I have been camped on a site that sites within the reserve and this pictures are from across a few days.
