Castlerigg Stone Circle

East of Keswick,  the atmospheric Castlerigg stone circle lies within view of high fells. Believed to be dated from about 2000AD, the purpose of these stones is unknown.

Derwent ducks & geese

Derwent Reflections

A calm morning provided perfect conditions for reflections across the lake. It was so calm, some parts of the lake had iced over (hence the lack of reflection in some parts)

Around Derwent water

Wednesday

In theory today was going to be a day to take it easy and have a rest, so I started out on a short stroll along the shore of Derwent water from Keswick. Before I realised it I was 1/3 around the whole lake so figured I should carry on and complete the whole 9 1/2 mile circuit.

Derwent is the Lakeland's widest lake a 1.25 miles & has a number of small islands dotted around its waters.
