Birker Fell

Birker Fell, also known as Birker Moor, is an upland wilderness area in the western Lake District. Rather than being dominated by a single high summit, the fell forms a broad, undulating landscape covering approximately 6 square kilometres, with numerous crags, rocky outcrops and prominences scattered across its expanse.

Water plays an important role in shaping the character of Birker Fell. Numerous small streams, known locally as becks or gills, flow between the crags, many of them rising from the numerous bogs and wetland areas that occur across the fell. These boggy areas proved to be one of the main challenges on my walk, requiring careful route-finding to negotiate the wetter ground.
