Spurn Head & Kilnsea

Friday 14th Oct

Spurn head is a narrow spit of sand and shingle formed from longshore drift and the eroding coast from the north (and quite a lot of foreign rocks and rubbish from all over the world). The spit is about 3 1/2 miles long and has a lifeboat and pilot boat station at its head. It is also a very popular place to spot rare migrating birds.

Kilnsea is a small community at the beginning of the head and housed WW2 battlements which are now broken up on the beach.
